History
The administration regarding tax programs in California dates back to 1879 when
State Board of Equalization and the State Controller were enacted by the state constitution. The office of the Franchise Tax Commissioner was set up in 1929 through the state legislature. The modern form of the board was come into existence when the state dissolved Franchise Tax Commissioner and its power was transferred to the Franchise Tax Board in 1950. John J. Campbell was the first Executive Officer followed by Martin Huff, G.H. Goldberg and Selvi Stanislaus. Latter was the first women to be designated as the executive of the board in 2006.
