Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari was founded in the year 1989. It covers a land area of 225 - acres at Kumaracoil, Kanyakumari District, in the state of Tamil Nadu. Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari is run by the Noorul Islam Educational Trust and looked after by its Founder Chairman Dr. A.P. Majeed khan The Primary motto of the trust is to establish educational institutions of excellence, especially, in the field of engineering and technology so as to equip the youth of this place and its vicinity with the wisdom of system building.
Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari is approved by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu and the All India Council Technical Education. New Delhi. NICE is only a vocal-distance from the famous Lord Velmuruga Temple at Kumaracoil. It is only 15 km distance from Nagercoil, the district headquarters of Kanyakumari and 1.5 Km from the NH-47. Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari campus lies on the lush-green base of velimalai, a part of Western Ghat hills. Padmanabhapuram, the capital of erstwhile Travancore is only 7-km away. Not too far, at 4-kms distance is the Thuckalay Town.
The Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari are faculty members of all departments are well qualified and well trained in their respective fields. Most of the teaching staff are P.G Degree holders and a few are Research Scholars. The staff members take every effort to maintain the quality and guide the students in a better way so as to make them come up, and shine in today's competitive environment.
Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari have full-fledged separate computer centers / workstations for PG and UG courses. Apart from those centers, we have additional workstations for Mainframe, Internet,CAD/CAM and for First year students. The Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari computer workstations have about 800 Pentium systems. The operating system environments that we have in our computers are DOS, Novell NetWare, Unix, Windows 9x, Linux, AIX, OS/400 and Windows NT. In software we are having all latest languages including Visuals, Sybase, Power builder, Java, web servers, web application development tools etc. Laser Printers, Color scanners, Inkjet Printers and multimedia are provided in most of our workstations. All workstations are interconnected so as to enable clients to work on IBM AS/400, IBM RS/6000, Unix (OS), and Linux (OS).
A collection of about 40,000 volumes of text books are available in our Library. Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari Library automation is being carried out by Computerized Library Management System. Nearly 100 prominent periodicals, International journals and video cassettes covering various technical aspects are also available to the students through the library.
Internet Connectivity using VSAT and ERNET, is successfully operating in our campus and nearly 600 computer users in our campus can be online to use our internet resources. Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari Campus networking was done two years back. To improve the performance of the overall network and to avoid cable losses, we have fibre optics as backbone and Intel Switches at important junctions. IBM RS/600 serves as the internet mail server of our college.
Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari admitted students only in two branches viz., Computer Science & Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering. Subsequently during 93-94, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and in 94-95 degree courses of MBA and MCA were launched. During 95-96, Mechanical Engineering, 97-98, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, and in 98-99, Information Technology came into being. Now the college also runs university-affiliated courses viz., M.Sc Software Engineering, B.Sc Computer Technology and M.Sc. Computer Technology.
Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari has a full-fledged Placement and Training Cell with an Industry experienced Placement and Training Officer. The function of this cell is mainly to promote industry-institution interaction for the benefit of the students to carryout in-plant training and to undertake project as a part of their educational requirements. This cell provides the latest information to the students to update their knowledge to face competitive examinations and interviews. This cell is in constant touch with major industries all over India in order to provide job opportunities to the students who are in their final year.
A number of Campus Interviews and off the Campus Interviews have been arranged for the students by this cell. Noorul Islam College of Engineering-NICE Kanyakumari also provides training to the students on Career Development etc. The UG and PG students have already been placed in reputed industries through the campus selection. This cell has a mini library where the students can borrow the latest books, which are useful for attending the interviews and writing competitive examinations. This cell also gives information and guidance to the students who are aspiring to go for higher studies.
