Nine years before an independent India emerged, this thought-seed was planted to further the cause of education and the first polytechnic was started. That was the beginning and the acorn today is a magnificent oak tree of excellence in learning. PSG Institute of Management – PSGIM Coimbatore in its earliest avatar was a department and a part of the PSG Institute of Technology. Its genesis was in 1971 and metamorphosed into a full-fledged institute in 1994. The 40-year pedigree makes it one of the pioneering management education initiatives in South India.
The genesis of PSG Institute of Management – PSGIM Coimbatore can be traced to the establishment of the Department of Management Sciences in the year 1966 at the PSG College of Technology. Dr G R Damodaran, the Founder-Principal of PSG Institute of Management – PSGIM Coimbatore on surveying the increasing number of small-scale industrial units functioning in and around Coimbatore (promoted by technocrats – many of them being the old students of his own Engineering college) felt the need for providing them with concepts and techniques related to the area of business management. To meet the need, a department of Management Sciences was created and a 3 year part-time Post Graduate Diploma course in Business and Industrial Management, affiliated to the University of Madras, was introduced in 1966.

Objectives of PSG Institute of Management – PSGIM Coimbatore in terms of measurable targets of performance are finalized annually at the meetings of the Faculty Forum, which are held in a retreat for two days in the summer. The Director, all Faculty members, the head of the Knowledge Resource Centre, the manager of the Computer Centre, the Placement Officer (designated as the Head of Corporate Relations Cell), the head of the Advertising & Communications Cell and the Administrative Officer constitute the Faculty Forum. The forum formulates measurable action plans, which get periodically reviewed in the course of the year.Institute offers different kind of bachelor and master courses leading to different streams.

Central Library of PSG Institute of Management – PSGIM Coimbatore has a central library with spacious halls and exclusive reference section with quite number of volumes on all subjects whose total exceeds 27285 volumes. There are 79 National journals and 59 International Journals subscribed in our college Library. The library remains open from 9 AM to 8.PM. Our Library is completely computerized and measures are being taken to promote our Library to Digital Library.

Hostel facility of PSG Institute of Management – PSGIM Coimbatore is endorsed with a salubrious hostel both separately for men and women. The hostels are more spacious and have the capacity to accommodate 450 students in each hostel. The eye catching point in our hostel is that an environment is created that may menace the students a homely feeling with hygienic food and mother care. The hostel is located in the sylvan mountainous surrounding region that gives nourishment to the college hostel.
